Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 102 runs | MI vs KKR | IPL 2018

This is the 41st match of IPL 2018 played between MI vs KKR at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Despite winning the toss and having the advantage of playing at their home ground Kolkata Knight Riders lost the game by a huge margin. After winning the toss KKR decided to field first. Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 102 runs. Furthermore, KKR last won the match against MI on 8th April 2015. And from there it is on a losing spree against Mumbai Indians.

Kolkata won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first for Mumbai Indians Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis provided a quick start for the team. Suryakumar Yadav made 36 runs in 32 balls and Evin Lewis made 18 off 13 balls. Captain Rohit Sharma played a stable inning of 36 runs off 31 balls. However, Ishan Kishan played a game changer explosive inning of 62 runs off just 21 balls. He hit as many as 6 sixes and 5 fours reaching second fastest fifty of this season’s IPL. Then, Hardik Pandya with Ben Cutting joined in to score 19 runs off 13 balls and 24 runs off just 9 balls hitting 5 sixes in total. Mumbai Indians made 210 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Bowling for Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t go well as they planned. Only Sunil Narine shined with the bowling. His figures read as 4 overs giving 27 runs and taking 1 wicket. Whereas Piyush Chawla went for 48 runs in his 4 overs taking 3 wickets, his final over going for 22 runs. Kuldeep Yadav went for 43 runs in just 3 overs and with no wickets.

Chasing a target of 211 runs, KKR opening batsman Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn went out of luck quickly. Sunil Narine got out just after hitting four runs and Chriss Lynn got run out for 21 runs in 15 balls hitting 3 fours and 1 six. Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana made 14 runs and 21 runs respectively. Powerplayer, strong hitter Andre Russel was a no-show who made 2 runs off 4 balls. And, so was Captain Dinesh Karthik who managed 5 runs off 3 balls. However, a little fightback from Tom Curran and Piyush Chawla ensured KKR well past over 100 runs before ending up at 10 runs.

MI’s bowlers Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah strangled KKR batting attack. Krunal Pandya in his 3.1 overs took 2 wickets for just 12 runs. Whereas Hardik Pandya in his 3 overs took 2 wickets giving 16 runs. Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah also took  1 wicket in his 3 overs giving 17 runs only.

This is how Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 102 runs. Furthermore, this is the highest win in this year’s IPL. Therefore, with this win, Mumbai Indians are now in the top 4 teams and close to playoffs.
