Delhi Daredevils Knocks Out Mumbai Indians | DD vs MI | IPL 2018
The match 55th of the IPL 2018 played between Delhi Daredevils vs Mumbai Indians at New Delhi. This was a do or die match for Mumbai Indians to qualify for the playoffs. But, due to brilliant fight back from home ground team, Delhi Daredevils Knocks Out Mumbai Indians out of the tournament. With the sensational bowling plus fielding effort, Delhi Daredevils at their home ground beats Mumbai Indians. The match went to the last over. This was a nail-biting fight. But, MI weaknesses overpowered them and so they didn’t qualify for the playoffs after losing the game.
On winning the toss Delhi Daredevils elected to bat first. Prithvi Shaw and Glenn Maxwell opened the innings for the DD. Expectations were high from Glenn Maxwell to perform well but the outcome was not something to cheer for. he made 22 runs off 18 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer failed under the pressure of captaincy after getting out for just 6 runs. However, Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar with their stable partnership played explosively to score 64 runs off 44 balls and 43 runs off 30 balls. Rishabh and Shankar had a partnership of 67 runs off 47 balls. They took the reins of DD from a low score to a respectable total of 174 runs.
MI chasing the target send Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis to open. They started on an explosive note. Suryakumar Yadav got out after hitting 12 runs off 4balls. Whereas, Evin Lewis scored 48 runs off 31 balls. Then, in quick succession, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya got out falling for Sandeep Lamichhane and Amit Mishra’s bowling attack. However, Hardik Pandya played a fighting inning of 27 runs off 17 balls to get close to the target. But, got out on an Amit Mishra delivery. Whereas Ben Cutting played like a man who knows how to win playing an inning of 37 runs in just 20 balls hitting 3 sixers. But, he also couldn’t take his team to winning score of 175 before getting out on Harshit Patel’s delivery.
With their superb bowling and fielding effort, Delhi Daredevils Knocks out Mumbai Indians. MI needed 18 runs off the final over. Ben Cutting was on strike. He hit six on the first ball and got out on the second ball. Mumbai Indians were all out for 163 runs with three balls left. Amit Mishra, Harshal Patel and Sandeep Lamichhane took 3 wickets each for the Delhi Daredevils. With this loss Mumbai Indians are out the tournament. Rajasthan Royals chances are sealed as KXIP team is up against CSK who needs to beat CSK with a high margin that looks impossible for the team who won its 6 consecutive matches. But since then have only faced defeat in every match.
