Indian batsmen needed 269 runs to win from 50 overs. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli build a solid first wicket partnership of 167 runs in just 25 overs. Rohit Sharma is in such a good form that he made 137 runs not out in 115 balls hitting 15 fours and 4 sixes. Whereas Virat Kohli made the run chase look easy by scoring 75 runs in 82 balls hitting 7 fours. India score read 226 for 2 in just 33 overs when Kohli got out. Also, Shikhar Dhawan contributed 40 runs off 27 balls. From thereon, the match looked one-sided as India chased the target comfortably. India made 269 runs for 2 wickets and reached the target in just 40.1 overs.
England bowlers were hit all over the ground by the Indian batsmen. Only David Willey and Liam Plunkett bowled economically. Plunkett bowled 6 overs giving away 31 runs without a wicket. Whereas David Willey went for 25 runs in 5 overs. However, Adil Rashid and Moen Ali got one wicket each despite going expensive with the runs.
